Since we were small we have played at cooking with those tin pots we’ve always had and which never go out of fashion: a perennial toy that has helped us grow up and play adult roles. And then... it’s time to cook, but this time for real, with pots, pans and stoves beside a grandmother —although certainly one with a bit of get-up-and-go— Grandma Remei. Adults and children will enjoy Grandma Remei’s new book; the youngsters beating eggs, kneading bread and stirring casseroles, all following her rules of simplicity and tradition. You’ll have some delicious recipes and, when you read them, more than one person will say: GRANDMA REMEI, I WANT TO COOK!
Remei Ribas Aguilera born in Mataró, she has given talks and cookery courses for all ages. She has taken part in television programmes in Mataró. She has participated in various programmes on Catalunya Ràdio. She has given various culinary demonstrations on TV2 and TV3. She is currently making a cookery programme for local television stations. She has published “La cuina de l’Àvia Remei” (Grandma Remei’s kitchen) (2001), which is a landmark among cookery books, and which has been translated into Spanish and “Plats i secrets de l’Àvia Remei” (Dishes and secrets from Grandma Remei) (2003), which continues her task of publicising traditional Catalan cookery and which has now been translated into Spanish. Cristina Martí Ribas born in 1966, she is Grandma Remei’s daughter. She is a fine arts graduate specialising in art conservation and restoration, which is her normal field of work. Her professional career has ranged from archaeological restorations including wall paintings and furniture to theatre decoration and decorative antique painting. She has also given courses in restoration, decorative arts and mouldings. This book has been her first entry into the world of illustration, following her taste for working with materials and textures.
